My Business Plot: Writing for Growth
My interest in web content writing springs from a background in sales, a love of words, and a fascination with the miracle of growth.
I have been a parent who helped children grow into adults and a gardener who helped seeds become flowers. Now, I have the extreme privilege of helping small businesses grow into regional, national, and even global enterprises.
Since 1999, I have specialized in freelance writing services and web design for Internet start-ups and small businesses, beginning with my first web business, Shyflower's Garden, but that is getting ahead of my story.
Shyflower.com: My Story
- After completing a Sales Associate course at Alexandra, MN Technical College, my first job was as the copy director at KDHL Radio in Faribault, MN back in 1974.
- I began to learn design and layout concepts during the 1980s when I served as editor and designer of the Cathedral Bells, a monthly newsletter for the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour.
- In 1997, I purchased my first computer and immediately fell in love with digital design.
- Doing business under the name of Paquette Custom Gift and Printing, in 1999 I hooked up to the Internet and changed the business name to “Shyflower's”, using a nickname suggested by a friend. I purchased my first domain and opened Shyflower’s Garden and soon after, The Shyflower Press.
Shyflower's Garden was an on-line literary magazine that published short stories, articles, and the poetry of aspiring authors from all over the world. The Shyflower Press published e-books and POD (Print on Demand) books from August 1999 to August 2001. Both were cited by the 2001 edition of Writer's Market as “one of the best 25 places to get published on the Internet.” Personal reasons forced me to close the businesses. From there, I turned my focus to writing web content, promotional copy, and providing editorial services for web start-ups and small businesses.
Growing a Business
A colleague once told me, "If I stay in this business for another twenty years, I will still have something to learn." I think he was right!
Over the years, I have grown from a radio copywriter into an experienced, skilled web content writer who learns from and adapts to the on-going changes in web technologies and trends. My commitment is to provide affordable quality to small businesses and web start-ups. Along with helping my clients "grow" their businesses, my goal is to improve the quality of information available on the Internet, one website at a time.
